National Maritime Museum

The Society played the leading role in the founding of the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich in 1934. It buys paintings and other items for the Museum through its trusteeship of the MacPherson Fund. The Fund commemorates Arthur George Holdsworth MacPherson (1873–1942) whose extensive collection of naval and maritime prints has been in the Museum since its foundation. Visit the National Maritime Museum website.

National Maritime Museum Cornwall

The National Maritime Museum Cornwall, at Falmouth, specialises in small craft and the maritime history of Cornwall. It holds the national collection of small craft formerly held at Greenwich. In 2005, the Society deposited its records of watercraft (compiled by John Bethell) with the Museum. This is known as the Bethell Watercraft Resource and is available in the library. The museum is compiling a national register of historic small boats in the UK. Visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall website.

Royal Naval Museum, Portsmouth

The splendid Royal Naval Museum in Portsmouth developed from the Victory Museum which the Society for Nautical Research established at Portsmouth in 1938. The Society works closely with the Royal Naval Museum and makes substantial financial grants towards its work. Visit the Royal Naval Museum website.
