Research
The Society for Nautical Research actively encourages research into maritime history. It manages several funds from which it can grant money for research and make awards for outstanding contributions to nautical research. It also has strong links with maritime research centres, all of which offer a range of courses in maritime history.
Anderson Fund
The Anderson Fund is used to grant money to individuals and institutions for any purpose related to research into any aspect of maritime history. Up to £2,000 is available each year, for a single grant or two or more smaller grants. Find out more about the Anderson Fund.
Anderson Medal
The Society awards the Anderson Medal annually for a written work of history published during the previous calendar year which, in the opinion of the Council of the Society for Nautical Research, has made the most outstanding contribution to understanding the maritime past. Tomlin Fund
The Tomlin Fund is used to support research into “nautical antiquities, into matters relating to seafaring and shipbuilding, into the language and contents of the sea, and into other subjects of nautical interest”. £1,500 is available each year. Find out more about the Tomlin Fund.
Naval History of Britain
